At Broughton Fields, we aim to foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. Learning a foreign language opens the pupils up to experiencing other cultures, to expressing thoughts, ideas and opinions in another language and to understanding and responding to its speakers in both speech and writing. It is a necessary part of living and communicating in a multicultural society.

Opportunities are available for the children to read familiar stories in French, to listen and respond in French, using conversational skills, to explore the language through songs, rhymes and games, to develop accurate pronunciation and intonation, broaden their vocabulary and develop their ability to understand new words and basic grammar.  All facilitating the children’s acquisition of language in a fun way.

Language teaching at Broughton Fields provides the foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries in the future.
